Cloud save notice
What cloud save keeps, and how restoring, merging and deletion work.
Last updated: 2026-08-08
1. What is saved
Cloud save stores data intended to be shared across devices, such as subscriptions, change history, term end dates, billing time zones, categories, tags, payment methods, display currency, rates, review lists, review sessions, review action logs, review service assessments, and achieved savings. Notification preferences, this device identifier, this device's save state, consent records, anonymous statistics setting, and optional profile are not included in subscription cloud save data. Consent records, anonymous statistics setting, and optional profile are stored separately as account settings and shared across signed-in devices.
2. Auto save
When cloud save starts and there is no existing cloud save data, this device is saved once and auto cloud save starts on. If the account already has cloud data, you choose whether local data or cloud data should be trusted before auto save starts. Destructive changes such as clear all, subscription deletion, and history deletion pause auto save.
3. Save now
Save now uploads this device's local data to cloud and may overwrite the current cloud save data. If cloud data differs, confirmation is required.
4. Restore
Restore replaces this device's local data with cloud data. Confirmation is required before it runs.
5. Merge
Merge adds and combines cloud data into this device's local data. Duplicates or unexpected remaining data may occur.
6. Cloud Pass expiry and deletion
After Cloud Pass ends, cloud save can be restored through the end of the 30-day recovery period shown in the app. If Cloud Pass starts again before the deadline, you can resume from the cloud save that remains. After the deadline, it cannot be restored.
Costfolio does not offer a normal user-facing action to delete only cloud save while keeping the Costfolio account. Deleting the Costfolio account also deletes cloud save, but local data on this device remains. Account deletion does not automatically cancel or refund an App Store or Google Play subscription.
7. Backup history and copies
What Costfolio keeps is the current cloud save. There is no facility to pick and restore an earlier generation, or to download the underlying cloud-save data as a backup file.
CSV export can keep a separate copy of the current fixed-cost list, but it is not a full restore file for history or review logs. Copies created by iCloud, Google Drive, device backup, or another OS service are separate from Costfolio cloud save and follow that service's settings and retention rules. Costfolio cannot guarantee that an OS backup or device migration alone transfers its data correctly, so check cloud save and any CSV copy you need before moving devices.
8. Limits
Save, restore, and merge may fail due to saved data size, network state, external service outages, or authentication state. Auto save is not continuous synchronization; it tries to save when conditions are met while the app is in use or closing, and completion is not guaranteed. A failed attempt keeps the last cloud save that completed successfully. Check local data, retry a manual save on a stable connection, and keep a CSV copy of any important list.
